Stranger Things Episode 2 :The Weirdo on Maple Street | Reviews | Netflix

The party scene is quite the charmer, but maybe I just love any scene that’s playing Modern English. In fact, the use of music in this episode is also some of the best in the series. Barb’s disappearance accompanied by the opening notes of The Bangles’ ‘Hazy Shade of Winter’ is rather haunting.
Description:
  • Eleven adapts
  • The hunt begins
  • Poor Barb
  • A young band of friends navigate the challenges of family and growing up as they battle a dark force which has entered their world thanks to the hubris of underground scientists and secret-keeping politicians.
  • Things get hairy when a young person is taken captive by this dark force, which otherwise takes on a very ugly form and is more or less invulnerable.
  • Thankfully, the good guys don’t have to kill it. They just have to close the portal to its world.
  • They manage this with about a third of the final episode left.
  • Around about the same time, we say an apparent goodbye to a major character.
  • A scene closer to the end then calls that goodbye into question.
  • Surprisingly, the dark force only actually kills one character that we care about all season, whose name starts with a B.
  • Will Byers does nothing useful at any point.
  • There’s a new girl. One of the boys hits it off with her. That boy isn’t Will.
  • Eleven’s nose bleeds a lot, and her powers fail at inopportune moments.
  • Ham radios and walkie-talkies are the main modes of communication, and they too fail at inopportune times.
  • Items acquired from a normal retail store are used to surprising effect.
  • Lucas is clutch with his slingshot.
  • A bad boy with great hair and a cool car has a surprising arc.
  • A major character has flashbacks to the death of a loved one.
  • A major holiday is going on in the background.
  • We learn nothing meaningful about the dark force, nor are serious questions asked about the cartoon scientists or precarious government. So far as we know, nothing really changes.
