Mirzapur (Amazon Prime) VS Sacred Games (Netflix) | Review

Check Mirzapur 2 release date
Before giving my opinion on Mirzapur vs Sacred Games, I want to lay out on the facts about both of them and let you judged it yourself.
I want to judge the movie on these 6 parameters -
Director: Winner-Sacred Games

  • Sacred Games - Anurag Kashyap & Vikramaditya Motwaane. Two of the best directors in Bollywood, especially for Action & Crime movies
    • Mirzapur - Karan Anshuman & Puneet Krishna. Puneet Krishna was a co-director in Inside Edge but apart from that, there hasn’t been any great movie from their arsenal.
Dialogues & Writer: Winner-Sacred Games
  • Sacred Games - Varun Grover has written the uber-famous dialogues and is known for gritty punchlines
  • Mirzapur - A newbie Vineet Krishnan along with the directors have written the dialogues of this movie. Though he has done a great job but the lack of flair or spark is visible.
Star Cast: Winner-Sacred Games
  • Sacred Games - Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui & Radhika Apte, the star-studded star cast who are well-known method actors make up for this
  • Mirzapur - Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Divyendu Sharma, Rasika Dugal. The star cast is neither star-studded nor prominent method actors except Pankaj Tripathi. Also, I and many others feel that Pankaj Tripathi’s talent wasn’t used properly, for most of the series he is silent and not provocative, till the end.
Source of the story: Winner-Sacred Games
  • Sacred Games - It is based on Vikram Chandra’s acclaimed novel of the same name. Generally, the historical success of Netflix Original is partly due to their selection of stories which originate from acclaimed writers.
  • Mirzapur - The story is not based on any real story or on some specific characters. The series is based on a story Karan Anshuman had.
Story & Characters: Winner-Sacred Games
  • Sacred Games - The series plays in two parallel timelines which are seemingly interconnected in future. The characters are layered with a connected background which gives depth and reflects how they have evolved through time. There is a constant juggle between past and present which keeps the curiosity and thrill alive throughout. Leaves a significant question at the end which keeps the excitement of a second season.
  • Mirzapur - The story is almost linear with a small information about the history of the characters relevant to the plot. Their is not much connection with the background and the highest thrill is felt when the past and the present meet at a point in time.
Details & Artwork: Winner-Both
  • Sacred Games - The creators hired a design firm for making the unique logos before every episode and the title. So much for the detail. The artwork in the starting song is also worth a watch. The music of the starting song sticks in the mind.
  • Mirzapur - Mirzapur is gory, like a Tarantino movie. They have shown intestines oozing out of the stomach, slow sadistic killing of victims and many nerve-wracking scenes. The artwork in the starting song and in the set is worth watching.
So in 5 our of 6 areas, sacred games is a clear winner by far.
