How does Amazon Prime Video compare to Netflix in India?

Have used Netflix,amazon prime ,Hulu plus(using fake IP), Hotstar and Eros now.

Well as you want to focus on Indian markets,it comes down to Netflix, amazon prime, hotstar. Well Netflix was hyped a lot when it entered Indian market and witnessed gradual slow down in the number of registering users. It still has a larger user base because of brand image and only focused on streaming while for Amazon and hotstar these are side businesses.

I feel I can answer this as I use all three of them.

Now let's come down to content…

TV SHOWS

Netflix-

The sitcom selections is limited, that 70's show, friends, the office UK are the ones worth watching! It has a lot of documentaries and a lot of drama! The thing with Netflix is, it has a lot of content but not the ones you hear people talking about. Except like sacred games, peaky blinders, riverdale, bojack horseman are the new happening shows! Yes they do have fan favorites but they majorly ones whose storyline has been finished like breaking bad, house of cards etc. Movies they do have a lot of them but again not the known ones, it doesnt stand out in any genre of movies I believe! If you are a movies person then I would say forget it! And if your primary language of streaming is hindi then the range of choices is very scarce. But no one can beat the amount of content Netflix has to offer.

But hands down Netflix has the best UI I feel. As it is very well integrated with all platforms be it desktop, smart TV, iPad or even a phone! It has a uniform feel to it.

Price- it depends on the number of devices and number of people that are gonna stream with a single account. It's around 600 for single screen, 720p per month. If you are gonna spend time binging then it's a decent price.

Amazon prime-

Has a wider variety of sitcoms but not many! When it comes down to drama it has some famous ones like mr robot, house, mentalist, the office USA and a bunch more. Recently Amazon is seen putting out good Amazon original content like mirzapur, the marvelous ms.maisel and a few more. They have tried to balance a lot between regional, Bollywood and international which leads to not a great range of choices but yea its okayish not that great. They also offer a greater range of cartoon and anime selection for kids and also some hindi TV shows like tarak Mehta etc.

UI of Amazon prime has undergone a lot of work and is pretty good now unlike before but still not very good looking. The logo looks sick!

Price- cheap, as it comes as a prime package, Amazon delivery, Amazon music, Amazon drive and obviously the prime. It's a very good deal and doesnt get better than this!

Hotstar-

Hotstar has made some smart moves that we must agree upon. Bought the game of thrones viewership rights. This will lead the people to see what they have to offer. I have been using it for quite sometime now and it might sound weird but they have the best TV show collection as they have bought viewership rights of HBO, showtime and ABC which means Barry, entourage, the Americans, the Sopranos, big bang theory, modern family, greys anatomy, billions, the deuce a lot of show of the year belongs to ABC, showtime and hbo. It's a smart move by all the creators as star being widely accepted Indian brand will now stream content on behalf of remaining top line content creators. They also stream sports live, some news channels including republic TV and obviously all star TV shows. Documentary and movies is not at all their strong suit as it's way way smaller. So a big no if you are a movie or documentary person. If your primary language you want to stream on is hindi then hotstar is meant for you or if you are a shows guy.

Price- 199 per month, single screen and they do not offer any other tier, this is the only one.

If you are a movie person trust me just watch it on some website.

I would say pick shows and then subscription jot down what you want to watch and then decide. All these subscriptions stand out in their own ways. If you want try all out once in free month trial and take your pick. Choose between hotstar and Netflix as Amazon prime is not a streaming service but an essential as it is a spread of many other things you would use throughout the year. Yea ik Jeff Bezos is damn smart :D
